Lee Morgan was one of the most original and exciting horn players of the 50s, 60s and 70s. He was just a teenager, the “young cat”, when he toured with Dizzy Gillespie and went on to record with some of the finest jazz musicians of his age. But his life was dogged by an addiction to heroin and just as he finally kicked the habit and was starting to reinvigorate his career, it met a tragic and unexpected end. Tonight on Inquiry, we talk with writer and archivist JEFFERY S. McMILLAN about his scholarly, definitive yet thoroughly enjoyable biography DELIGHTFULEE: THE LIFE AND MUSIC OF LEE MORGAN.
