Who's the Blonde in the Black Dress?

Tenor sax maniac Paul Gonsalves was born July 12, 1920 in Brockton, MA.

June 2017 - Diana Krall’s amazing success as performer and recording artist over the past twenty-plus years has made her an object of admiration – and/or envy. What is certain is that her always-engaging singing, estimable piano talent, and coolly magnetic but accessible presence have made her the foremost advocate for the American songbook of her generation – and a jazz icon in her prime.

WICN Names Jazz Artist Amanda Carr as New Executive Director

WORCESTER – May 24, 2017 – WICN Public Radio, a National Public Radio affiliate station, today announced that Amanda Carr has joined the organization as executive director. In addition to her music and production background, Carr brings sales and marketing knowledge to her role at the public radio station. She takes the reins from Tom Lucci, former WICN board president, who has been acting as interim general manager.

Tom's Picks for Valentine's

From Tom Lucci
Host of Standard Time, 12pm-4pm, Sunday

Need a good love song for Valentine’s Day? This might help – I went into my music database and came up with this list of tunes, mostly from the American Songbook, about the “good” side of being in love. There are plenty – here are over 60, which only take us through the “L’s”. Stay tuned for part 2.

Along with the titles are versions that I particularly like. Snuggle up and enjoy!

GUEST POST by Singer/Composer/Performer/Recording Artist, AMANDA CARR

Nick's Top 15-plus Albums of the Year

From Nick Noble
Host of Folk Revival, 7-11pm, Thursday

Mostly (but not all) local New England artists, here are the 2016 CD Releases that I consider to be the best of the year. It is a varied collection, featuring a wide range of styles and song subjects, but as you probably can tell from most (but not all) of them, I am a sucker for harmony.

So here they are in alphabetical order (I enjoy them so much in very different ways that I haven’t the heart to prioritize one over the other):

Holiday Favorites from Jerry and “Against The Grain”

I'm sure you are all tired of the same holiday tunes being pumped out of stores and radio stations that repeat the same song every four hours. I, for one, never ever want to hear "Dominic The Donkey" again!  So here's some relief for you. My top ten Holiday albums that will please almost everyone.  Check these out, add your personal favorite and you're good to celebrate!

1.     Christmas Cocktails Vol.1-3.  (Capitol CDP 7243 8 52559 2, 7243 8 21457 2, 7243 8 214572).
