Morgan Scott Trio

Friday, September 3, 2010 - 8:00pm

Appearing regularly at The Java Room, the trio consists of Morgan Scott on piano, Tom Curatolo on bass and Ed Conley on drums, percussion. “We create adventurous music of the moment, spontaneous composition at times and traditional jazz standards at others. Sometimes a quick burst of an idea comes across one of our minds’ ear, and if we are free of ourselves we let that idea emerge. The rest of the group will react to the idea, or the idea presented exists as a counterpoint to whatever is already going on in the music. The result can be astounding...and not so astounding...but it will always be. I am lucky to be able to play with such great players as Ed and Tom and we have cultivated a musical bond that I believe is rare in music.” – Morgan Scott

Ben Hillman, The Professor of Funk

Friday, September 3, 2010 - 9:45pm

Hillman got his start as a drummer, playing in local bands throughout his teens and early twenties. He would eventually learn to play the keyboards as his desire to write and arrange his own music grew stronger. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he studied both percussion and keyboards, and majored in music composition. Upon graduating, Hillman would cut his teeth on Boston's hard-core funk scene, playing with some of the biggest names in local music, such as Blacksnake, The Boston Horns, saxophonist Sam Kininger and hip hop artist D-Tension. He also has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including Method Man and Ghostface Killa from the Wu Tang Clan.
