Cabaret Open Mike w/ Feature: Mary Catherine Ward, Pianist Michael Larson

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - 7:30pm

Host: Leslie Holmes. Although Mary Catherine Ward did some acting in her twenties, it was not until recently that she started infiltrating the cabaret scene. While her job as a clinical social worker and mother of two is very fulfilling she found she needed to express herself and singing was the medium of choice.

Mary Catherine performed her first solo hour long cabaret show this spring at the “March is Cabaret Month Festival” sponsored by BACA. In the meantime, she is a frequent presence on the assisted living home, public library and open mike circuit. She will be recording her first full length CD this summer.

Rose Polenzani with Session Americana

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - 8:00pm

UK critic Alan Pedder in a review of her November, 2005 residency at Lizard Lounge read: "You don't just listen to Rose, she happens to you."

"The crew blends all of this instrumentation into a seamless folk and country medley of exactly what their name implies: Americana at it's finest. It's as pure as anything I have ever heard—without pretense or too much thinking ahead. As comfortable to hear on a rickety Southern front porch in early June, as it would be on cold February night in Boston in front of a warm crackling fire." -Cover Story by Shady, The Noise Feb. 08
