Sunday Brunch - Monica Hatch with Pamela Hines on Piano

Sunday, May 4, 2008 - 12:00pm

Having studied voice with one of America's great sopranos, Eleanor Steber, song stylist Monica Hatch is one of the very few who managed to have a successful career as both a classical and jazz singer. With her classical background, Hatch not only brings a technically advanced set of vocal chords to her jazz work, but an appreciation of the lyrics of the material she sings. She conveys a sense of warmth in her interpretations never letting her naturally strong voice overwhelm the material.

Of Pamela Hines - April 28, 2007 edition of Midwest Record Recap: " Straight ahead jazz isn't a dirty word, in the right hands it's a wonderful thing that sounds good and feels nice... Whether delivering chestnuts or originals, Hines is right there, on point playing the clean, bold lines that make you take notice that let you concentrate on the fire with being distracted by false pyrotechnics.

Amazing Theater Company Presents: The Cemetery Club

This lively and poignant comedy about love and survival illuminates the relationships, humor, and feelings of three close friends who meet at the cemetery each month to pay their respects to their late husbands. Each of the widows is at a different stage of healing and moving on with her life. The flamboyant Lucille – whose husband was unfaithful – flirts outrageously, as if to avenge herself. The quieter Doris is content to remember her husband. Ida is beginning to think she’s ready for a second chance at love. But Lucille and Doris aren’t ready for her to take that chance. How the friends resolve this conflict is funny, touching, and thought-provoking.

Liz Carroll & John Doyle

Sunday, May 4, 2008 - 7:30pm

"...a magnificent balance of virtuosity, drive, and finesse is firmly upheld. Carroll's bowing and Doyle's picking represent a kind of soloing in sync, each supporting and inspiring the other without a whiff of self-indulgence... (They) are a duo in every sense of the word here: synaptic in communication, instinctive in reaction, tight in execution, rich in ideas, and unabashedly having a ball." - Earle Hitchner, Irish Echo
