Swingin' in Mothers Rest - Free Outdoor Jazz Concert Series

Swingin' in Mothers Rest is a way of bringing families and people of all ages together to experience live jazz in this historic park. Each year, Swingin' in Mothers Rest presents Berklee's talented up-and-coming students, and renowned professors and alumni, performing a variety of jazz styles.

Featured this evening: Yuki Ito Quartet: Berklee student Yuki Ito, a native of Sapporo, Japan, is a talented acoustic bassist who began playing at 12. Ito is the recipient of the prestigious Lawrence and Alma Berk Scholarship and has studied with such renowned Berklee faculty as JoAnne Brackeen, Hal Crook, Bruce Gertz, Greg Hopkins, and David Santoro. Her composition "Picture" is featured on Common Ground, the new CD from Berklee's student-run Jazz Revelation Records. She scored a high profile gig in 2004, performing at the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE) conference, as a member of the Jazz Month in Asahikawa Junior Jazz Orchestra.

The White Heat Orchestra, with bandleader Craig Ball, is a high-energy band featuring a trio or up to 15 pieces playing the swing and jazz of the 1930's and 1940's for dancers of all ages. The White Heat Swing Orchestra, also known as the "Roxy Band", was the house band for almost five years at the upscale Roxy nightclub, playing music for both the swing dancers and the nightclub crowd every hour three nights a week. Fast or slow, they hit every note without missing a beat.

Steve Howard is a singer songwriter who, although based in New England, has performed his music all over the country. He has worked and shared the stage with many noted performers from Tom Rush and Jamie Brockett to Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Dave Bromburg, Juice Newton and Lacy J. Daltron. His songs are stories, sometimes serious, at times humorous but each with Steve's unique style and craftsmanship.

Come on down and share a song, a poem or play something for the always attentive and willing audience. Come and sign up beginning at 6:30pm. Bring your friends.

Bruce Marshall, a celebrated singer songwriter from Concord, will host acoustic open mike every Wednesday night. Musicians are invited to perform with Bruce or solo. Bruce has recently released a solo CD entitled Restless Soul. The 15 song disc contains solo acoustic versions of some of Bruce's most requested original songs some of which that have not been previously released. This is Bruce's first solo CD and is being released in conjunction with his receiving the "Outstanding Acoustic Musician" award in the Blues Audience Magazine Readers Poll for '07.
