Dan Zanes and Friends

Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 2:00pm

It's Woodstock for kids! In the world of family music, Grammy Award-winning Dan Zanes is a total superstar. The former lead singer for The Del Fuegos, Dan and his band perform exuberant folk-rock music for enthusiastic kids and their equally enthusiastic parents. Dan's totally fun live performance includes music from his just released CD, Nueva York, and a delightful mix of sea chanteys, Broadway tunes, West Indian folk music, good ol' fashioned rock and roll and lots more. It's one big music party, and everyone's invited! Co-presented by FirstWorks, the Providence Performing Arts Center, and the City of Providence.

Dave Brubeck

Saturday the 11th at 7pm

WICN presents Dave Brubeck October 11, 2008 at 8:00 pm at THE HANOVER THEATER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.

Brubeck's style ranges from refined to bombastic, reflecting his mother's attempts at classical training and his improvisational skills. Much of his music employs unusual time signatures.

His long-time musical partner, alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, wrote the Dave Brubeck Quartet's most famous piece, "Take Five", which is in 5/4 time and has endured as a jazz classic.

Brubeck experimented with time signatures through much of his career, recording "Pick Up Sticks" in 6/4, "Unsquare Dance" in 7/4, and "Blue Rondo à la Turk" in 9/8. He also provided music for the TV animated miniseries "This Is America, Charlie Brown".
