Caroline Doctorow - Alastair Moock

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 8:30pm

Folk-pop singer-songwriter, Caroline Doctorow grew up in New Rochelle, New York. The daughter of a full time author, Caroline grew up with a love for the arts. "I learned to play the guitar at the age of eight. There was always music in our household. I always wanted to be a singer and a performer, and in one way or another, music is something I have worked on nonstop, from a very early age." Caroline takes her time writing songs. She takes a more cerebral approach than most to her song writing, researching the topics for her songs until she feels satisfied that she has captured the subject thoroughly.

There was a time in America when folk music was relevant, edgy, even dangerous — a tool of personal and political expression, at once raw and beautiful. That spirit lives on in the music of Alastair Moock. Moock sometimes performs with a band or accompanist, but you're most likely to find him alone on a stage, sitting in a low chair, stomping a booted foot, picking his beaten guitar, and growling out some of the most beautifully crafted songs you're ever likely to hear. Those songs have won Moock top honors at many of the country's most prestigious contests, including those at the Falcon Ridge, Sisters, and Great Waters folk festivals.
