Submitted by edshepherd on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 9:57am.
Woonsocket native Daryl Sherman, who Rex Reed describes as “comely, effervescent and madly talented” returns to Chan’s for a great night of jazz. Special guests joining Daryl for her annual homecoming show will include Marshall Wood on bass, Mike Renzi on piano, Jon Wheatley on guitar, and cousin Dave Sherman on trombone.
Daryl Sherman, daughter of the late Woonsocket bandleader and trombonist Sammy Sherman, is a heralded member of the elite jazz community. When you sing wonderfully, exhibit great chops at the piano, know how to phrase with the best of them, and have a warm personality, the combination is irresistable.
According to the New Yorker, Sherman has “yet to meet a standard whose charm she couldn’t extract.” A sparkling mainstay of Manhattan nightlife, Daryl is now in her 14th year performing on Cole Porter's Steinway at the Waldorf Astoria. Daryl is especially known for her unerring sense of style, impeccable taste, and expertly chosen repertoire.

Mark Walker is one of the finest and most versatile drummer / percussionists on the international touring and recording scene today. His musicality and imagination has earned him the respect of some of the world's greatest musicians, composers and producers.
"I was very impressed by how drummer Mark Walker, bassist Oscar Stagnaro and percussionist Pernell Saturnino worked together. It was like being in a foreign country as far as what rhythms they came up with. They would talk to each other in code--calling out the name of the beat and then proceed to burn on it." --David Liebman
