2nd Show 10:00pm
It has become eminently apparent that Kenny Garrett is the most consistently scintillating and inspiring alto/soprano saxophone force in the genre. The multi-Grammy nominee brings a muscular yet lyrical eloquence to everything he lends his artistry, always delivering galvanizing and forceful work, digging deeper into composing while bringing a crackling vibrancy to his performances. Kenny's music is roll up your sleeves, in your face, hard bop blowing of rippling melodic songs.

Submitted by edshepherd on Tue, 01/19/2010 - 11:17am.
The powerhouse duo of Amy Gallatin and renowned resophonic guitarist Roger Williams joined forces a few years ago to explore their mutual love of country standards, served up with an acoustic treatment in the bluegrass vein. The result is a toe-tapping blend of heartfelt vocals, soaring harmonies and red-hot picking, traditional yet modern and distinct.
The two are enhanced by the recent addition of Roger's son J.D., who--in the time-honored tradition of musical consanguinity--complements his father's style perfectly, and by veteran bassist John Urbanik, who provides an additional texture to the vocal harmonies.

Submitted by edshepherd on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 12:47pm.
The Monterey Jazz Festival is back on the road - and that road takes it to the Jorgensen Cabaret. This year’s talent tour features violinist Regina Carter, who TIME magazine says “creates music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent and, at times, breathtakingly daring”; The Kenny Barron Trio, playing sensitive melodies with infectious rhythms; the rich, flamboyantly creative, four-octave baritone of Kurt Elling; and critically acclaimed guitarist Russell Malone.
There’s nothing like it for sheer enjoyment and relaxation, with light dinner fare and dessert ($3-$10; cash bar), and the best entertainment around in a cozy, candlelit nightclub setting, with tables on the floor. Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are $34, $38 and $45. For tickets and information, call the Box Office, Monday through Friday, 11 am to 5 pm, at 860.486.4226, or order online at jorgensen.uconn.edu. “Authentic.” “Timeless.” “Harmonious.” “Exhilarating.” Any or all of these adjectives could describe the folk-rock sound created by Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion. The musical richness and psychological depth of their initial collaboration, is irrefutable proof that the disarming granddaughter of Woody/daughter of Arlo and the prodigious South Carolinian quite naturally bring out the best in each other. “Welch and Rawlings apart – it’s hard to recall two modern country voices that dovetail as elegantly as this husband and wife team… A dream.”– Uncut www.sarahleeandjohnny.com
Native to Lawrence, Kansas and currently residing in Jamaica Plain, MA, this double-whammy performer and teacher specializes in American music. Charlie Rose is a muti-talented musician who plays banjo, double bass, guitar, pedal steel, and cello. http://www.myspace.com/rosecharlie

Submitted by edshepherd on Sat, 01/16/2010 - 12:12pm.
The Irish Comedy Tour takes the party atmosphere of a Dublin pub and combines it with a boisterous, belly-laugh trio that will perform live on The Hanover Theatre Stage. Come and laugh away the winter blahs! The clover -- make that clever -- comedians, whose ancestors hail from the Emerald Isle, include Detroit native Derek Richards; Boston-born Mike McCarthy; and from Dublin, Ireland Keith Aherne.
The irreverent trio, which just released a DVD titled Dublin' Over, has performed at venues across the country. For video clips and show schedule, see www.theirishcomedytour.com. They're Irish, they're American, and they're not holding back!
