Celtic Music Monday: “New Bands on the Block”
Submitted by edshepherd on Sat, 01/30/2010 - 11:37am.
Celebrating the continual influx of new and talented young musicians into the Boston folk/acoustic scene, Celtic Music Monday presents a “New Bands on the Block” showcase with The Whiskey Boys and The Ivy Leaf. The Whiskey Boys are David Delaney (fiddle) and Mark Kilianski (guitar), who met through the Berklee College of Music and proceeded to put together a sound that draws upon not only Celtic but American folk and jazz influences. With this old/new dynamic and a winning stage presence, The Whiskey Boys have begun building an audience for themselves in clubs, pubs and other venues around Boston. www.whiskeyboys.com
Dan Accardi (fiddle), Caroline O’Shea (flute/whistle) and Lindsay Straw (bouzouki) are The Ivy Leaf. Formed this past autumn, the group has been pulling together tunes and influences from the Boston/Providence session scene and players such as Denis Murphy, Caoimhin O Raghallaigh, Kevin Crawford, Dolores Keane and Paul Brady to create a unique, traditional sound. To get a sample of their sound, take a listen at www.myspace.com/accardiosheastraw.
As a special feature, there will be a discount $6 admission for all persons with a valid current student ID. Regular admission is $12, $6 for members of Passim, WGBH and WUMB.

Featured: George Garzone, Bob Gullotti, John Lockwood
The Fringe are one of the genuine living treasures of the Boston jazz scene. Originally formed back in 1971 by tenor-saxophonist George Garzone, bassist Richard Appleman, and drummer Bob Gullotti as an outlet for their free jazz improvisations, The Fringe have entertained and enlightened Boston area jazz audiences for over 30 years. Bassist Appleman left the band in 1985 to become Chairman of the Bass Department at Berklee College and was replaced by veteran bassist John Lockwood.
