Moira Lo Bianco Trio

Event Date:
Sunday, April 14, 2013 - 2:00pm
Venue:

“Moira Lo Bianco has used her impressive classical training as a vehicle for building a new kind of musical expression – she is a ‘piano explorer,’ an inventor, and a joyful ad exciting improviser.”-- Stephany Tiernan, Chair, Berklee Piano Department

The gift of a toy piano for her fifth birthday was where the music started for Italian-born Moira Lo Bianco. After that, it wasn’t long before Moira found her first loves: the keyboard music of Bach and Bartok. From each composer she took traits - counterpoint and perfect balance from Bach, dissonance and harshness from Bartok - that have represented the two sides of her art ever since.

A classically-trained musician from age 9, Moira graduated with honors from Italy’s F. Torrefranca Conservatory and University of Tor Vergata – studying Film Scoring under Oscar-winning composer Luis Bacalov along the way – before earning a scholarship to Berklee in 2010.

Now based in Boston, Moira brings classical music to unexpected venues through unique collaborations, with the ultimate goal of re-interpreting classical music for a new generation of listeners. Moira’s repertoire – built over years of playing the old and the new, jazz, classical, contemporary and her own inimitable improvisations – helps her move fluidly among classical and jazz purists and those at the forefront of emerging contemporary music.

Perpetually fascinated by experimentation, Moira has collaborated with artists in her native Italy to present live installations, book reading and exhibits set to live music. Fresh off the release of her album Lunaria (featuring Bruno Raberg on bass and Marcello Pelitteri on drums), Moira and her trio bring new original compositions to Lilypad, accompanied by a live experimental dance performance.
