Wysocki Family Jazz Trio

Event Date:
Tuesday, July 30, 2013 - 7:30pm

As part of their around-the-world summer tour, the Wysocki Family Jazz Trio, hailing from Hong Kong, will be at the Regattabar for one night between appearances at the Half Note in Niseko Japan, the Sapporo Jazz Festival, the Soiree de Jazz at Hotel Lutetia in Paris and Caffe Vivaldi in New York City.

The band plays a selection of jazz standards and jazzified Chinese cover tunes and consists of dad CJ on piano/trumpet, Mika (17) on drums and Krystof (15) on acoustic bass. Whilst their repertoire consists mainly of straight-ahead standards and a smattering of bossa-nova and boogaloo.

They are also doing their best to keep alive the tradition of “Yellow Music,” as the decadent, forbidden jazz was referred by both the Nationalist and Communist regimes in early 20th century China, a movement that began in the 1930s when Buck Clayton from the Count Basie “Old Testament” Orchestra moved to Shanghai with his Harlem Gentlemen Band and teamed up with the father of Chinese pop music, Li Jinhui.

In Hong Kong the Wysocki trio is actively involved in music therapy sessions at senior citizens homes and performs at a wide variety of social and community functions.

Tickets: $10
