Greg Hopkins Big Band

From Detroit, Michigan, Gregg Hopkins has been a force in arranging, composing and playing Jazz music in large ensemble big bands for over 35 years. His career started with such notable groups such as the Temptations, the Supremes, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder.

In 1972 he became the arranger/composer for the Buddy Rich Band. For 29 he was the director of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival Jazz program for 29 years. In 1974 he signed on with the Berklee College of Music. Soon he formed the All-Star Greg Hopkins Jazz Orchestra and has been featured in many festivals such as Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Melrose Jazz Festival and Cape Cod Jazz Festival.

Many of his great musicians have played with renown bands and artist such as Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Lyle Lovett, Lonnie Smith and more. His 16 piece CD “Okavongo” received a 4.5 star review from Jazz Times and All about.
