The Berklee Bob Marley Ensemble directed by Matt Jenson (Reggae)
The Berklee College of Music Bob Marley Ensemble, directed by Matt Jensen, delivers the music of the iconic reggae singer/composer in a faithful and accurate adherence to the spirit and feeling of the man and the era. It is a 15 piece ensemble of top students at Berklee College of Music who were accepted into the class entitled "The Music and Life of Bob Marley" taught by assistant professor of piano, Matt Jenson.
Not only do these talented students play full arrangements of Marley's music but they also take an in depth study of Marley's life, developing a deeper understanding of the socio-political atmosphere from which Marley found inspiration for his work. Students learn about music as social revolution, about socialism and capitalism, about Rastafarian culture and ultimately are pushed to take seriously what they are saying with their own music. As you can imagine, this is a very popular class at Berklee and the professional level ensemble performances are always SUPERCHARGED!
Professor Matt Jenson has devoted much effort into the meaning of Marley's music and has worked with Bob's wife, Rita and a number of people who were in Marley's inner circle. He has been to Jamaica a number of times conducting research into Marley's life. As part of tonight's concert Matt will present a brief slide show and question and answer session helping to illuminate the music and life of Bob Marley. Then it will be time for you to GET UP STAND UP and experience the full vibration of the Berklee Bob Marley Ensemble! www.mattjenson.com
