Boubacar Diabate and SambaLolo

Event Date:
Saturday, January 18, 2014 - 7:30pm

West African griot singer and traditional multi-instrumentalist, Boubacar Diabate, from Bamako, Mali comes from the Mande lineage. He has combined traditional West African rhythms with modern influences to create his own contemporary Malian griot music.

Songwriter, storyteller, guitarist and vocalist, Boubacar brings his original compositions and arrangements to deliver powerful vocals and distinctive guitar melodies, with a unique sound likened to the Kora, a traditional harp made from hardwood and calabash.

In Bambara and Manding, Boubacar Diabate sings and plays with his group SambaLolo, creating a full spectrum of traditional to contemporary Malian music, fusing Blues, Jazz, Reggae and Bluegrass. He sings of our common experience of love, life and humanity in the age-old tradition of Griot storytelling through song. Artist Official Website  Audio/Video Clips
