Cabaret Open Mic Feature: Mary Catherine Ward; Pianist: Tom LaMark; Host: Leslie Holmes
Growing up in a large Irish-Catholic family sounds fun...it was hiliarious, but at times, quite challenging. As the eldest of eleven children, Mary Catherine Ward had to be a pioneer in testing the waters, and breaking boundaries for her siblings by rebelling against their devout Roman Catholic Mother... which is probably why she became a Family Therapist by day, who escapes as a Cabaret singer by weekend, and continues to press the need for family self-relfection and self-preservation.
She brings a unique perspective to the theme of survival, death, divorce and the nuances of single parenthood by blending comedy and compassion, wit and grit. She takes her audience on her personal journey finding humor in her former stale marriage and the almost -behind -her struggles in making a fresh start. Her songs range from the wistful 'Where Do You Start?"' to the acerbic 'My Attorney Bernie.'
Mary Catherine conveys the range of raw and heartfelt emotions with full-voiced singing and wry humor in a show that is both hilarious and heartfelt.
