DONAL FOX WITH SPECIAL GUEST MAYA BESIER (Feb 9th Show Cancelled)
The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA) presents composer/pianist Donal Fox with guest cellist Maya Beiser in Piazzolla to Bach in the Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater.
Returning to the ICA, where he inaugurated the Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater at the ICA with the very first public music performance there in February of 2007, Guggenheim Fellow and Steinway Artists Fox brings his Piazzolla to Bach project for solo piano and cello, with special guest Maya Beiser. Piazzolla to Bach (for jazz quartet and cello) premiered at the Tanglewood Jazz Festival in 2010.
Bach had a profound influence on Piazzolla, the Argentine composer known for his tango music, and with the help of Beiser, who lists Piazzolla's music among her influences, Fox explores the relationship of the two artists. Like Piazzolla, Fox has forged a unique amalgam of jazz, Latin and classical music.
Beiser discovered Piazzolla’s music when she was a little girl growing up on a Kibbutz in Israel. The Argentinian tango composer and bandoneon player was favorite of Beiser’s Argentinian father.
General admission tickets are $35, $30 for members and students, and can be purchased at www.icaboston.org or by calling (617) 478-3103. Tickets include museum admission on the day of the performance. Note: Feb 9th tickets will be honored on the 8th or exchanged for refund at point of purchase.
