EMEFE / Noble Savage
Friday, May 31, 2013 - 8:00pm
Miles Arntzen, drummer for Antibalas and Superhuman Happiness, created EMEFE in 2009. Arntzen was inspired by the music of Fela, who used his music as an escape from confrontation against the Nigerian authorities. The band’s motto, “Music Frees All," birthed the name EMEFE. They use their music to fight the inner authorities we put upon ourselves. EMEFE’s sound consists of a four-piece horn section, a drummer, a bassist, two guitarists, two percussionists, and a keyboardist. Dubbed “one of the Big Apple’s best live acts” by SarasotaDay.com, EMEFE has supported Passion Pit, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Antibalas, Rusted Root, and more. Members of EMEFE have played with artists such as Fela! the musical, J.D. McPherson, Charles Bradley, Asphalt Orchestra, Budos Band, Lenny Pickett, Medeski Martin and Wood, Grace Weber, and many more.
Noble Savage is a mash up of virtuoso musicians from Boston-based jam bands. Different members of Noble Savage are also members of Spiritual Rez, Effective Dose, Rapplesauce, and Philly-based dub/rock trio Among Criminals.
