INTRODUCING YUTO KANAZAWA & EARTHWARDS

Event Date:
Wednesday, February 13, 2013 - 8:00pm

Tokyo-born, Fukushima-raised 26-year-old jazz guitarist and composer Yuto Kanazawa is a Berklee College of Music and Koyo Conservatory graduate who has been studying all kinds of music--pop, rock, classical, jazz and folk since he was 3. Yuto got the "jazz bug" while at Koyo Conservatory and subsequently moved to Boston to attend Berklee where he studied with Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, Hal Crook, Dave Santoro, Greg Hopkins and Phil Wilson. He has since toured Japan and performed at the Hamamatsu Jazz Festival as well as at the Blue Note Osaka. His hip band also appears in shows and clubs in greater Boston.

His new CD, Earthwards, on Interrobang Records, features powerful contemporary jazz with one track, "The Ocean" written immediately in the aftermath of the Fukushima Tsunami disaster in 2010. The piece musically describes his reaction to the devastation in his home city.

At Scullers, the Earthwards band will include saxophonist Mario Castro from Puerto Rico, clarinetist Felix Peikli from Oslo, Norway and bassist Zwelakhe-Duma Bell le Pere who hails from Connecticut. A drummer will be announced shortly. Video Clip  Yuto Kawazawa
