Jazz First with Vocalist Pamela Smith
Jazz First believes in the Great American Songbook, and feels those tunes should be preserved. Thus, the repertoire consists of jazz versions of this very listenable music by the masters (Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers, Strayhorn, etc.) written primarily in the first half of the twentieth century, with lyrical improvisations inserted for variety. At its core is a trio with Joe Whalen on piano, Chris Guild on bass, and Ed Conley on drums.
Tonight’s presentation adds the vocal stylings of Pamela Smith, who has been singing all her life and grooves on the wonderful songs found in the Great American Songbook. Jazz First performances result in consistent audience appreciation of their music! Since the group’s founding in 2004, it has played many gigs in southern NH and northern Mass., including a more than two-year weekly stint at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua. The group released a CD of jazz standards in 2008, “Jazz at the Supper Club, ‘08”, with vocalists Debbie Nordyke and Amanda Hall. jazzfirstmusic.com
