Johnny Winter's 70th Birthday Tour!
This is Johnny's 70th birthday weekend. It will be one rockin' party - the one not to miss. (and you never know who'll stop by)
For 40 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signed to Columbia records in 1969, he immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues with a powerful combination of authentic Texas funk and his own high energy rockin' blues. In '68 Rolling Stone called him "the hottest item outside Janis Joplin". Shifting between simple country blues to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern Rock.
Throughout the '70s and '80s, he was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Working with brother Edgar and Rick Derringer, Johnny put out some of the most consistently hard-rockin' blues of the decade. His appearance at Eric Clapton's 2007 Crossroads Festival with Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy and Clapton has been immortalized on the Emmy award winning DVD. Volume 7 of the acclaimed "Johnny Winter Live Bootleg Series" is still in the Billboard Blues charts with special liner notes by Warren Haynes.
The tradition of the Texas guitar slinger runs deep, from T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown to Albert Collins, Freddie King, Billy Gibbons and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. The one name that ranks at the top of that exclusive list is Johnny Winter, the international ambassador for rocking Texas blues. 70 years old and still going strong! In fact, better than ever.
GUITAR PLAYERS - Bring your guitar down to the Bull Run and learn the secrets of Blues, Rock, Fusion Scales, Chords & Theory from one of the masters. Johnny's 2nd guitarist, PAUL NELSON, will be holding a one-hour Master Class Guitar Workshop at Bull Run in the Studio Room at 3pm on the day of show. Paul has studied with Steve Vai, and Johnny Winter calls Paul "one of the most talented guitarists I've had the pleasure to work with." More info and sign-up HERE.
