Music with a Vengeance: A Cappella featuring Funkin' A! with Fermata Town
Shows can get cancelled for many reasons, but a city-wide lockdown due to a national manhunt is not usually one of them. Nonetheless, a cappella is a dish best served hot. Funkin’ A! promises to make up for their lost April show with piping versions of TLC, Marvin Gaye, and even Huey Lewis. Enjoy these and other new arrangements of both popular and pleasantly obscure songs Thursday, August 8th, at the Lily Pad. Joining them will be Fermata Town, fresh off a third-place showing in the national Harmony Sweepstakes. Music from two of Boston’s most talented vocal groups is well worth the wait.
Funkin' A! is seven voices of irreverence offering up an eclectic mix of tunes, including some you’re not sure you’ve ever heard, from six decades of (mostly) popular music. Covering Passion Pit to Michael Jackson to Blossom Dearie, their repertoire is sure to confuse DJs but please everyone else for at least three minutes. They’ve performed at Harvard Square’s Mayfair and Oktoberfest, WERS’s All A Cappella Live competition, Ball in the House’s A Cappella Concert Series.
Fermata Town is known for their original arrangements and signature sound, with dense harmonies from 15 voices. They’ve performed all over the northeast, including WERS, the BOSS festival, and at Emmanuel College for an audience of Mayor Menino and Cardinal O’Malley. Their debut album Hold That Thought was released this past December, and they were recently invited to audition for NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
