Om Shalom Trio – Ravi Shankar meets Itzhak Perlman
Om Shalom Trio, musical group that combine traditional Jewish music with Classical Indian music. In our performances, we draw on rhythmic and melodic aspects from Far Eastern and Middle Eastern roots to create a fusion of Indian Classical and Jewish folk. The two words that join to form the Om Shalom’s name are both synonymous with peace and the Sacred. The path of music is peace.
Ranendra Das (tabla): Called “Brilliant!” by North Indian Music Specialist, Dr. Max Katz, Ranendra is a tabla player from Sylhet, Bangladesh, with a repertoire that includes Western and Indian Classical music, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Bluegrass. Recent performances include: The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial dedication with President Obama, Lake Eden Arts Festival and Mystic Seaport Festival.
Abhik Mukherjee (sitar): Abhik is a gold–medalist Sitar player from Calcutta, India. His concert tours of Argentina, Suriname, Italy, Germany and Switzerland were widely acclaimed by the press and public. He also shared the stage with legends like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder in the celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial at Washington DC, in the presence of U.S. President Barack Obama.
Valeriya Sholokhova (cello): Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Valeriya is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where she was a full-scholarship student. She was a laureate in a number of international competitions, including the Liezen International Cello Competition in Austria and the Antonio Janigro Cello Competition for Juniors in Croatia. She has participated in several summer music festivals, such as The Perlman Music Program, Aspen Music Festival, and the Music Academy of the West.
