Poets' Asylum - Seren Divine (Note: Change in schedule)
Seren Divine is a feminist, educator, published writer, performance artist, visual artist, producer, and award winning poet. Divine has toured and competed across the country, with over ten years of involvement in the National Poetry Slams; from competition to volunteering, organizing and hosting. Since 2004 Seren has worked as a Professional Performance Poet, leading Performance & Writing Workshops for youth from Queens to Brooklyn, and in colleges and universities along the east coast. Before working with Urban Word NYC, Divine spent 12 years as an Early Childhood Educator. She is also a Teaching Artist with Urban Arts Partnership, formerly known as Working Playground. Seren recently debuted her first multi-media one woman show at New York City's historic WOW Cafe Theater; Be.Here.Now.
Seren Divine has five collections in print and two recordings. She has been widely anthologized, and in 2007 in Bowery Women Poems, Bowery Arts & Science, Ltd.
The Poets' Asylum meets every Sunday night in the Front Room at WCUW (910 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01610 - 508-753-1012). The reading starts around 7:00 p.m. with an open poetry reading. The featured poet or a poetry slam follows the open poetry reading. There is no cover charge at this weekly reading. Donations collected via a bucket pass go to the featured poet or to support the reading.
