From Third Stream to Contemporary Improvisation
Join concert curators Gunther Schuller and Tanya Kalmanovitch for From Third Stream to Contemporary Improvisation, a concert exploring the Third Stream in its historical and present-day status. When musical visionaries Gunther Schuller and Ran Blake founded New England Conservatory's groundbreaking Third Stream Department in 1972, they inaugurated a rich conversation between multiple musical styles and communities. This concert traces this cutting edge at NEC, from the earliest days of the Third Stream department to present-day innovations under the department's current name, Contemporary Improvisation.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, takes place at 8pm at NEC's Jordan Hall. A pre-concert panel discussion featuring Gunther Schuller, Ran Blake, Allan Chase, and Hankus Netksy, moderated by Tanya Kalmanovitch, will take place at 6:15pm at Williams Hall.
This event is part of the year-long 40th anniversary celebration for New England Conservatory's groundbreaking Contemporary Improvisation department in Boston and New York City. http://necmusic.edu/ci40
