Trio Benoît Delbecq, Jorrit Dijkstra, Curt Newton
French pianist Benoît Delbecq will pair up with Boston area improvisers Jorrit Dijkstra and Curt Newton for an afternoon concert. Dijkstra and Delbecq have worked together since the early ‘90s, notably on Dijkstra’s trio recording European Echoes (BVHaast, 1996). Delbecq has made a name for himself as one of the most original piano improvisers of his generation, combining influences from Ornette Coleman, Gyorgy Ligeti and African music into a “serene music” (New York Times). He has developed a unique style of piano preparation, that merges John Cage’s sound world with virtuoso, mesmerizing grooves. An invitation to a “voyage into a magic land” (Le Monde).
The trio will play originals by Dijkstra and Delbecq, and works by Thelonious Monk, Steve Lacy and Ornette Coleman.
