UMass Amherst Music & Dance Welcomes Guest Trombonist

UMass Music & Dance to Host Guest Trombonist Cory Mixdorf

AMHERST (MA) – On Monday, September 25, the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music & Dance will present a guest artist concert by trombonist Cory Mixdorf, accompanied by Ludmila Krasin on piano. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall, and is free and open to the public. 

Mixdorf will present a program of modern trombone music, including Polar Vortex by Michael Forbes, Gordon Jacob’s Trombone Concerto, À la Manière de Schumann by Jean-Michel Defaye, and T. Rex by Mark Phillips.

A member of the University of Arkansas music faculty, Mixdorf is the current Principal Trombonist of the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the New World Symphony, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra among others.

Mixdorf’s  recent endeavors include presenting at the 2016 International Trombone Festival at The Juilliard School, performing at the 2015 American Trombone Workshop, touring Germany and recording a CD with the brass ensemble, Eurobrass.
