Putnam Smith and Red Tail Ring CD Release

Putnam Smith, who hails from Portland, Maine, could be an old-world troubadour fresh from the 19th Century. After all, he lives in a log cabin, plays his Grandfather's banjo, and has printed up the jackets of his new CD on a 1901 Pearl Letterpress. Yet this rootsy multi-instrumentalist songwriter (he also writes and performs on guitar, mandolin, fretless banjo, and piano), steeped as he is in old-time Appalachian traditions, is very much a storyteller for the modern age.

Brittany Haas, Jordan Tice & Paul Kowert

Brittany Haas, Jordan Tice, and Paul Kowert are three of the most exciting young voices in acoustic music today. While each member carries an impressive resume of professional experience, it is the devotion to collaboration and the pursuit of a unique group sound that sets them apart. Together, Haas, Tice, and Kowert have produced a body of work containing flights of improvisation and interesting compositional turns all grounded by memorable melodies and driving rhythms.

Charlie Mars

Charlie Mars fifth album, Like A Bird, Like A Plane is rooted in conflict; one that began for Mars in childhood, having grown up in the church.

Facing those conflicts evolved into the themes of Like A Bird, Like A Plane. Mars pushed the musicians to find unusual hooks and invent ways to get into the songs that were less direct, which inevitably layered music with imperfections that sound human and vulnerable.
