Canadian vocalist Amy Cervini discusses her combining jazz and country music on her CD “Jazz Country” and the fun she has with her female vocal trio Duchess and the different dynamic of singing with women vs. men.

Betsi (voice) and Tag (piano) will serenade you with their delightful renditions of your favorite holiday carols – Joy To The World, Deck The Halls, Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph, Silver Bells, Silent Night, and many more! Joining them again this year is renowned saxophonist Trude Witham. You don’t want to miss the fun!

Jazz First with Vocalist Pamela Smith and sax/flutist Joey Placenti

Jazz First is a trio with Joe Whalen on piano, Chris Guild on bass, and Chris Narainen on drums. Tonight’s presentation includes the vocal stylings of Pamela Smith, and sax/flute player, Joey Placenti. Pamela has been singing all her life and really knows how to belt out jazz tunes. She’s been with us a number of times at the Java Room and audiences really like her – you will too! Joey has been playing various wind instruments for a long time and once again joins us and Pamela tonight as one of our featured performers.

Sunday Brunch with Jazz Continuum

Chamber jazz: n. - an imaginative conversation of music in a myriad of styles (bebop, swing, stride, bossa nova, samba, waltz, blues, ballad...) that makes a perfect backdrop for Sunday brunch. Jazz Continuum: n. – A quartet of improvisational musicians who come together to carry on conversations in the framework of chamber jazz. Alice Lee (piano), Brett Baker (guitar), Mickey Carter (percussion) and Steve Conahan (bass).

Cassandra Lee & the Acoustic Project

Cassandra Lee & the Acoustic Project's three-piece design makes for a gorgeous sound, saturated with rich vocal harmonies over warm acoustic guitar. With influences ranging from Amos Lee and Susan Tedeschi to Lake Street Dive and Bill Withers, their performances span multiple genres. Sunday Brunch with Pianist Joe Whalen

On the first Sunday of each month, Joe plays from a library of over 500 tunes developed in response to requests over many years of playing as a soloist in a wide variety of venues. You'll recognize the strong influences of Bill Evans, Dave McKenna, Keith Jarrett, George Shearing, and Erroll Garner; training from Berklee trained professionals, and classical training. Joe plays the great melodies and incorporates melody-based improvisations for your listening pleasure. Finally, you’ll hear songs from popular Broadway shows.

Markus Pinney Jazz Trio

The trio performing this evening has Markus Pinney on piano along with drummer, Grant Smith and bassist, Ralph Pepe. Markus Pinney displays his talents as an accomplished jazz pianist, improviser and original vocalist. The dynamic interplay among the group offers engaging interpretations to an eclectic mix of musics drawn from jazz and blues idioms, as well as Markus’ compelling original compositions. He has played in and around the greater Boston area for over 20 years with his 'mp3' jazz trio.

The Scott/Conley Trio

Appearing the first Friday of each month at The Java Room, the trio consists of Morgan Scott on piano, Ed Conley on drums and percussion and either Robert Rivera on cello and bass, or Sven Larson on bass. “We create adventurous music of the moment...”spontaneous composition” at times and traditional jazz standards at others. Sometimes a quick burst of an idea comes across one of our minds’ ear, and if we are free of ourselves we let that idea emerge.
