THE MACROTONES RECORD RELEASE / THE ESSEX

The Macrotones have been bringing tightly honed afrofunk to Boston, New England, and beyond since 2007. Whether they’re opening for national headliners like NOMO, the Budos Band, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, and Grupo Fantasma, splitting sold-out bills with regional favorites like Rubblebucket and Westbound Train, or playing all night themselves, The Macrotones’ taut rhythms keep the bodies moving and heads nodding.

16th Annual Ellis Paul Holiday Ball CD Release Show, Flynn opens

Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting and one of the top songwriters to emerge out of the fertile Boston folk scene. He contributed in creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk rock style that helped renew interest in the genre in the 90's. His charismatic, personally authentic performance style has influenced a generation of artists away from the artifice of pop, and closer towards the realness of folk.

Lori McKenna solo

Lori’s unusual combination of professional and personal life, at least in the context of the modern music industry, is well-documented. She grew up in Massachusetts in a musical household. Her father was an excellent singer, and her mother played the piano. Two of her older brothers were songwriters, one of whom (Richard) she considers largely responsible for her career. He accompanied a reluctant Lori to open mic nights and gave her confidence that she was good enough. She began performing her songs in public at age 27, after she and her husband Gene already had three children.
