The Tenor Masters

The warm sound of the tenor saxophone has come to be the symbol of jazz - largely because of the work of Charles Yardbird Parker, Long Tall Dexter Gordon, The Hawk Coleman Hawkins, and the immortal John Coltrane. On the Jazz at Lincoln Center Stage, three generations of modern day tenor masters -- Benny Golson, Bennie Maupin, and musical director Joe Lovano -- honor this legacy. Wendell Pierce hosts.

For his uncompromising, serious music, the 2011 Newport Jazz Festival was eager to present Charles Lloyd. He could bring any group, they told him. Charles said he would bring Sangam (means "confluence"), his east-west trio with Zakir Hussain on tablas, Eric Harland on drums, and Lloyd on saxophone. Join three musical spirits, flowing together.

Fox Point Music Series - Carly Tefft (guitar, djembe and voice)

Carly Tefft is an 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Cape Cod, MA, who counts the Police, Carol King, Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, and Colbie Calliat as inspirations. Tefft, a Berklee student, puts a contemporary and alternative spin on the singer-songwriter genre. She began writing songs in high school, and by graduation had released a self-produced EP, on which she played all of the instruments (drums, bass, guitar, piano, and vocals).
