Dave B. and the Hot Shots

Dave Birkin began his musical career as a member of the legendary Boston/Washington D.C. group “Powerhouse”, sharing the stage with many blues masters of the time including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, James Cotton, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, & James Montgomery. Together for almost 2 decades Dave B and the HotShots retains three of its original members: Dave Birkin (sax/vocals), Mark Shelford (guitar/vocal) and Ken Steiner (acoustic bass/vocal), performing authentic New Orleans sounds from the late ‘40s through the mid ‘60s.

Its part bebop, part groove, and part world music. It’s real jazz, but you won’t need a GPS to listen to it. In 2010 their CD “Time‟s Up!” won a prestigious SAMMY award for best jazz CD of the year and got airplay on radio stations in over 120 cities worldwide. Their 2011 release called “Reach” was produced by Grammy Award winning bassist Jimmy Haslip from The Yellowjackets and features three tracks with legendary keyboardist Jeff Lorber.
