LOVE SONGS OF BRAZIL with Anita Coelho Brazilian Ensemble

The Anita Coelho Brazilian Ensemble presents a very special Valentine's Day evening at Vernissage performing some of the most romantic selections of the Love Songs of Brazil.

Anita Coelho and her dynamic ensemble gracefully incorporate her sultry vocals with the hypnotic rhythms and distinct melodies of the rich music culture of Brazil. Together this musical collaboration creates a unique experience taking audiences to where music, poetry and the warmth of Brazil evoke the meaning of "Passion".

STRING DAY

An annual event for string players of all ages: pre-college students & their parents, private or classroom string teachers & orchestra directors.

ACTIVITIES: Mini-lectures & chamber music reading (senior participants & parents/teachers), an informal orchestra rehearsal and a concert. All participants should bring their instruments.

TEACHERS/PERFORMERS: UMass Music & Dance Department Professors Elizabeth Chang (violin), Kathryn Lockwood (viola & coordinator), Salvatore Macchia (bass), Astrid Schween (cello) & UMass Opus One Chamber Orchestra.

On Tuesday local mainstays Lou and Jan Borelli visit. Their eight-piece band has held court at Nick's in Worcester for years and it's there that the band will celebrate their CD release this week. The recording showcases the arrangements of west coast jazz icon Dave Pell. We'll hear about his works, the Worcester jazz scene and more when we catch up with the Borelli's Tuesday at 2 pm.

Sunnie Paxson

Pianist and composer Sunnie Paxson join us on Monday. Her latest recording "Bohemian Sun" is produced by, and features the bass of, the great Stanley Clarke and is climbing the jazz charts.  She's a perennial winner of LA Magazine's best jazz performers, a Berklee grad and will be calling in on Monday's edition of Jazz New England. Be sure to join us at  2pm.
