Bill Thompson III and Stan Ulanski

Program:
Host:
Date:
Sunday, December 1, 2013 - 9:00pm

Inquiry welcomes back the one and only Bill Thompson III, Editor of Bird Watcher’s Digest and author of many books on birds. His latest book is titled Bird Homes and Habitats. This book is a great source for learning about what will make your home property more “bird friendly” and how best to feed and attract birds. Tune in tonight for some great tips!

Tonight we speak with Stan Ulanski, Professor or Meteorology, Oceanography and Marine Resources in the Geology and Environmental Science Department. He has written a very entertaining and informative book on billfish: those large and fast fish that have the long pointy “swords”. The book is part natural history, part angling adventure and part cultural history. Tune in and learn all about how swordfish live, how sailfish can change color, and how Blue Marlin are most people’s favorite gamefish. We will also talk about how two famous American fiction writers, Ernest Hemingway and Zane Grey, wrote about the thrill of fishing for billfish. Professor Ulanski’s book is titled: The Billfish Story: Swordfish, Sailfish, Marlin and Other Gladiators of the Sea.

Al Dean

Al grew up listening to the music of the 40’s on his father’s EH Scott radio and 78 records. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman were family favorites. This is first experience in the broadcasting field and allows him to dig into his closet of old vinyls and share them with his audience on the Sunday afternoon edition of the Jazz Matinee.
