Herbie Mann may not have been the first jazz flute player but he was the first jazz musician to specialize in the flute and he brought his music around the world.
Tonight Inquiry welcomes Hisham D. Aidi, a lecturer at the School of International and Public Affairs and the Institute of African Affairs at Columbia University. His important new book is titled Rebel Music: Race, Empire, and the New Muslim Youth Culture. “Music is a powerful lens through which to view the identities and movements emerging in Muslim communities.” Writes Hisham D.
