Celebrate Labor Day Weekend with Colors of Jazz and San Francisco based musician Marcus Shelby.  Shelby is Artistic Director of the Marcus Shelby Orchestra; living life as bandleader, composer, arranger, bassist, educator and activist. He'll talk with Bonnie Johnson about joining forces to bring a musical voice to "Notes from the Field: Doing Time in Education" with Tony-nominated performer/playwright/professor Anna Deavere Smith's Pipeline Project. Her "second act" is on stage at The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University through September 17, 2016. Shelby's "work and music has focused on sharing the history, present, and future of African American lives, on social movements in the United States of America, and on early childhood music education." Today's show featured relevant music from Shelby's composition Port Chicago and more Listen here for this special talk.
