Even if he didn’t “kill him a b’ar when he was only three”, as the Disney song extolled, David Crockett was probably our first celebrity hero. A true “Son of Tennessee”, which was the frontier of America in the very early 1800s, Crockett was a very successful bear hunter; the archetypical frontiersman, and a gifted raconteur. The wilderness was indeed his cathedral. Tune in to Inquiry tonight when we talk with writer MICHAEL WALLIS about his thrilling history of the idiosyncratic DAVID CROCKETT: THE LION OF THE WEST.
Tonight on Inquiry, we welcome back writer and teacher DAVID GESSNER. His new book is MY GREEN MANIFESTO: DOWN THE CHARLES RIVER IN PURSUIT OF A NEW ENVIRONMENTALISM. During a days long canoe and kayak trip down the Charles River with his friend Dan Driscoll, David observes the wonders of urban wildlife while at the same time meditating on what has gone wrong with environmentalism and why it has lost it’s powers to excite and motivate the masses. What David is looking for is something more dynamic; more human, an environmentalism that offers hope in the face of all the gloom and doom. Tune in and listen to this refreshing take on nature and humanity.
