The Mingus Orchestra at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York

Thanks to Let My Children Hear Music, the foundation that keeps Mingus' compositions alive, there's a small orchestra that regularly performs his music, voiced colorfully for French horn, flute, clarinet, bassoon, brass and reeds. Boris Kozlov plays the composer's actual double bass with a lion's head carved in the scroll, and Gunther Schuller, Mingus's longtime friend, conducts new arrangements.
