In the spring of 1777, a shoemaker followed a group of soldiers passing through Virginia. He shouted out, "Hurrah for the King!" The soldiers then bound him and see-sawed him back and forth in a river till he nearly drowned. Later he was tarred & feathered and run out of town under threat of death.
