“All people long for justice, but we feel horrible when those who have created harm go unpunished”. We are of two minds about revenge: we talk about it and joke about it, enjoy movies about the hero seeking revenge, but feel conflicted about actually doing it ourselves. Our courts offer victims very little solace. Victims are rarely allowed to make statements in court and plea-bargaining subverts any possibility of the victim feeling like justice was served. Tonight on Inquiry we talk with Thane Rosenbaum. He is the John Whelan Distinguished Lecturer at Fordam Law School and directs the Forum on Law, Culture and Society. His new powerful book is titled PAYBACK: THE CASE FOR REVENGE and it may change how you think about revenge and justice.
Tonight on Inquiry we talk with photographer Ruby Ray. Her new book, which also contains a great CD, is titled FROM THE EDGE OF THE WORLD: CALIFORNIA PUNK 1977-81. This collection of photos documents the bands and people that made the punk scene in Los Angeles and San Francisco featuring photographs of bands like D.O.A.; the Mutants, X; and Devo. She has also written and produced a more extensive e-book on the subject titled PUNK PASSAGE: A TRAGICOMIC ROMP THRU THE HARDCORE AXIS OF THE SF/LA PUNK SCENE 1977-1981.
