Established by Aaron Richmond in 1938, the Series has evolved into New England's major presenting organization with over 100 performance and outreach activities annually.
In 2008, Pulitzer Prize and GRAMMY® award winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis was commissioned to write a celebratory piece for the bicentennial anniversary of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, New York. Five years later, Marsalis teams up with friend and colleague, pianist, conductor Damien Sneed, to bring “Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration” to stages in 16-cities across the United States.
Catch Colors of Jazz when Marsalis joins Host Bonnie Johnson to discuss the tour and "bringing the church" to the people through a fusion of jazz and gospel that features the 15-person Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and 70-voice Chorale Le Chateau, a diverse gospel choir led by Sneed. The tour concludes at Boston's Symphony Hall on October 27, 2013. Tune in at 4pmEST.
