Sam Rivers Duet And Orchestra. Saxophonist and band leader Sam Rivers passed away on December 26, 2011. In his 2001 JALC-commissioned work for his orchestra, Rivers revealed a vibrant compositional palette with the poly-instrumentalist Anthony Cole. Hear what Dizzy Gillespie meant when he said Rivers "plays ALL the changes."
