There’s A Meeting Here Tonight: A Tribute to the Limeliters

From 1959 right up to the present, The Limeliters in their various manifestations have entertained audiences with a unique brand of folk harmony and folk humor. Who can forget “A Dollar Down” and “John Henry”, “Have Some Madeira M’Dear” and “Until We Get it Right”? Lou Gottlieb, Alex Hassilev, and Glenn Yarborough were the original Limeliters, and over the years such talented performers as Ernie Sheldon, Red Grammar, John David, Rick Dougherty, Bill Zorn, Mack Bailey, and Gaylan Taylor have been part of the Limeliter’s delightful presence.
On the Folk Revival this week we will listen to more than sixty Limeliter recordings, many of them live (the best way to hear the group), covering the entire career of this fabulous trio, spanning six decades. “If the button-down, scrubbed-looking, youthful Kingston Trio are the undergraduates of big-time U.S. folksinging,” wrote TIME magazine, “ the Limeliters are the faculty”. Give a listen this Thursday, and enjoy!
