Concert Assistant
WICN is one of the largest concert promoters in Central New England. Our commitment to live music is well-known throughout the area with long-running series such as The Brown Bag Concerts and Jazz at Sunset as well as numerous independent presentations. These concerts require a lot of work and we're always looking for extra help in the following areas:
Loader: Help carry, set up, and break down sound equipment. The
amount of equipment varies from show to show. Times may vary, but typically you should be
available during the afternoon before the concert and in the evening immediately
after the concert. Heavy lifting is involved!
(Approximately 2 hours per concert)
Sales Person: Sell tickets and/or artist CDs. This involves management
of cash and credit transactions from walk-in patrons, distribution of will-call
tickets and the sale of CDs for the performing artist.
(Approximately 2 hours per concert)
Usher: Show and assist patrons to their seats.
(Approximately 1 hour per concert)
Membership Drive Assistant
WICN is a member-supported public radio station and the single largest source
of operating revenue comes from our listeners. We hold membership drives four
times a year to encourage audience members to contribute to the station and make
sure that WICN is around for a long time providing great music to the community.
If you love to talk on the phone, put those skills to work by answering our
"pledge phones" during one of our membership drives. Shifts are available
weekday mornings, weekday evenings, and throughout the weekend.
(Approximately 3 hours per shift)
Library Aide/Media Assistant
WICN has a music library filled with over 18,000 CDs with more and more
arriving in the mail every day. It never seems to be enough, so we're always
looking for more. We're looking for someone to help contact record labels and
request continued service or recordings that didn't arrive in the mail. Keeping
our music library organized is a must so that hosts can find that "right" song.
We need help categorizing, labeling, and filing CDs (both new and existing).
(Approximately 2-5 hours per week)
Mail Assistant
Each month, WICN mails membership renewal notices to its donors. Preparing
these mailings requires a lot of help. Duties will include folding, stuffing
envelopes, sorting and stamping mail.
(Approximately 4-6 hours monthly)
Office Assistant
We're looking for someone to help with general clerical work, including
answering phones (particularly during staff meetings or lunch hours), greeting
guests, receiving special deliveries, typing, filing, etc.
(Approximately 1-5 hours per week)
Road Crew
WICN is becoming increasingly involved in the promotion and sponsorship of area events with organizations like Worcester Art Museum, Old Sturbridge Village, etc. We'd love to have a visual presence at these events that represents the "Face of WICN." You'd be responsible for setting up a table to display promotional information about WICN, answering questions from patrons, and telling everyone how great WICN is! These events happen at various times of the day or night and can vary in duration.
Website Editor
Our online Club Calendar is a listing of thousands of live musical events
that happen throughout New England each month. We need help entering all of this
information in to our website. Strong computer skills are necessary. Experience
with FrontPage is preferred.
(Approximately 5 hours per week)
Writing Assistant
WICN has 2 electronic newsletters that keep our listeners up to date with
what's happening. Our weekly version highlights some of the special programming
on 90.5 FM and at wicn.org. The monthly version encompasses all aspects of the
radio station, both on the air and behind the scenes. We need a creative
individual to assist in writing articles for these e-newsletters. Topics for
these publications would include our special programs, live in-studio
performances, special guests, area concerts, CD reviews, musicians celebrating
birthdays, and much more. No web experience is needed.
(Approximately 1-2 hours per week)
Join our family today, contact Karen Mungal at (508) 752-0700 or karen@wicn.org for more information on any of the opportunities listed above or for general information about volunteering at WICN.

When you renew your support for WICN, you'll get our highly sought after coffee mug and help jazz and folk spring into the warmer months.
