Our Spring 2018 edition of the Geller Jazz Concert brings to campus two extraordinary bass players: Christian MacBride & Linda Oh.

Five-time GRAMMY®-winning jazz bassist Christian McBride can be likened to a force of nature, fusing the fire and fury of a virtuoso with the depth and grounding of a seasoned journeyman. Powered by a relentless energy and a boundless love of swing, McBride’s path has described a continuous positive arc since his arrival on the scene. With a career now blazing into its third decade, the Philadelphia native has become one of the most requested, most recorded, and most respected figures in the music world today.

Though diminutive in stature, the bassist Linda May Han Oh makes music that is rich and lustrous, with a full, round, clean sound that sounds distinct even through the intensity of her ensemble. She has been critically acclaimed: “Oh controls the bass in such a way that I can only describe as both forceful and graceful – a contradiction of elegance and pure physical power.” An active double bassist, electric bassist and composer, Oh has performed with the musicians such as Joe Lovano, Steve Wilson, Vijay Iyer, Dave Douglas, Kenny Barron, Geri Allen, Fabian Almazan, and Terri Lyne Carrington. She is currently the bassist with guitarist, Pat Metheny.

Selma Geller was a New York City philanthropist who died in 2007. She was deeply concerned about the lack of musical educational opportunities available to the current generation of students. Her gifts to Clark University for music scholarships and musical performances are a testament to her desire to bring the original American musical art form to the Clark community.

Previous featured artists in Geller Jazz Concert series and recipients of the Selma B. Geller Foundations of Jazz award include Ron Carter, Dave Liebman, Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano & Ravi Coltrane.
