Get Your Freak On this Summer with “Americuba” by Havana Maestros

Producers and brothers Christian and Frank Berman have just released “Americuba” by Havana Maestros. The group is comprised of Cuban musicians familiar to American audiences from the wildly popular Ry Cooder/Juan de Marcos González project, “Buena Vista Social Club.” There really was a Buena Vista Social Club in Havana. It closed in the 1940’s but the spirit of the original was reawakened and given new life by Cooder and Gonzales in the 1990’s. Their collaboration also reinvigorated the careers of a group of world class Cuban musicians, many of whom had played at the original club. The “Buena Vista Social Club” recording also introduced these incredible players to the world outside Cuba. The album was followed by world tours, a film and several solo releases from various members. The legacy of The Buena Vista Social Club lives on in the Havana Maestros. The Berman brothers wanted to create something unique, timeless and yet brand new; “Americuba” is the result. 42 musicians worked on the album and many of the surviving players from the “Buena Vista Social Club” phenomena are featured on “Americuba” alongside the original vocal tracks from popular American hits. From Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ on the) Dock of the Bay” to Chic’s blockbuster dance hit ”Good Times” and Missy Elliot’s “Get Your Freak On,” “Americuba” is much more than a novelty recording. Bringing a classic, yet fresh Cuban perspective to these U.S. top forty hits, “Americuba” is the perfect soundtrack for you to get YOUR freak on and celebrate all the good times summer offers!
