Stone Cold Fox / Broken Anchor

Event Date:
Saturday, February 16, 2013 - 8:00pm

Stone Cold Fox originated as an acoustic bedroom project at SUNY Purchase, where members Olken and Loh met as classmates. It has since expanded and grown into a solid indie-folk group that “emanates a youthful and energetic sense of comfort through beautiful songs, simple aesthetics, and innovative production” (FIKA Coffee Break). Drawing its musical influences from Radiohead and more, Stone Cold Fox's exceptional musicianship grew from a place of deep-seeded knowledge, rooted in the members' early experimentation with a variety of genres. Now complete with Justin Bright (electric bass/bass synth), Graham Stone (guitar, backup vocals) and David Tedeschi (drums), Stone Cold Fox shows off “heavy, irreverent songwriting under catchy, indie pop tunes“ (Hyphen Magazine), that “capture the spirit of being young in America” (Given and Taken in Ink Music).

The story of new indie rock band Broken Anchor begins in a home studio in Los Angeles's diverse Echo Park neighborhood, where the song “Broken Anchor Blues” was recorded in 2012. The project grew organically out of collaboration between Austin Hartley-Leonard and producer, Brad Gordon. The music reflects a broader influence from Hartley-Leonard's previous efforts, lending itself to comparisons with Band of Horses and Fleet Foxes and what Gordon calls “a kind of elegant lo-fi retro vibe." Broken Anchor is a stunning ride through a songwriter's exploration of life and love, created with clarity of vision only the journey can provide.
