UMass Amherst Symphony Orchestra to Perform Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite

April 17 performance will also feature winners of the annual concerto competition

AMHERST (MA) – On Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30pm, the University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music and Dance will present a spring performance by the UMass Amherst Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Morihiko Nakahara. The program will feature Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919), Berlioz’s Hungarian March, and the 2018 UMass Concerto Competition winners, who will perform music by Ibert, Granados, and Martin. This year’s winners are Emily Kaplan, flute; Brandon Nowakowski, alto saxophone; and Jessica Toupin, soprano. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Center Box Office, by phone at 413-545-2511, or online at the Fine Arts Center website, Fineartscenter.com/musicanddance.

            The Department will also present a performance by their String Chamber Ensembles  in Bezanson Recital Hall on Monday, April 23 at 7:30pm.
The concert, coordinated by Elizabeth Chang, will feature works by Beethoven, Schubert, Glinka, Schulhoff, and others. The String Chamber Concert is free and open to the public.
