Kenneth Goldsmith & Kim Hawes

Imagine a website that hosts thousands of tough-to-find art images, recordings of artists talking, experimental films, concrete poetry, and much, much more. Also imagine that this website is open source, free to anyone of visits the site. That is the website UbuWeb. Tonight on Inquiry we talk with the person who started UbuWeb KENNETH GOLDSMITH. He teaches writing at the University of Pennsylvania. His new book is a history of UbuWeb, an introduction to numerous other website collections, and an introduction to quite a number of artists whose work you may not have experienced. Oh, and there’s a great discussion of copyright laws and “free use”. DUCHAMP IS MY LAWYER: THE POLEMICS, PRAGMATICS, AND POETICS OF UBUWEB.

Ever wonder what it would be like to go on tour with one of the major rock bands? Tonight’s guest on Inquiry, KIM HAWES has toured with bands like Hawkwind, Concrete Blonde, and Mötorhead. First as a merchandising marvel and then, amazingly, as a band manager. Her wonderful memoir is titled CONFESSIONS OF A FEMALE TOUR MANAGER: THIS WOMAN’S LIFE ON THE ROAD WITH SOME OF THE MOST NOTORIOUS ROCK BANDS EVER.
